There are many things to do and see in Erie,
Pennsylvania. It is the only lake port city in northwest Pennsylvania with a rich history dating back to 1795. Visit
the museums in the area that tell Erie’s story, including the Maritime Museum, Historical Museum, and several others. Enjoy a scenic drive
along Erie’s historic bayfront as
you head downtown toward Dobbins Landing. There you can ascend 187 feet
to the top of the Bicentennial Tower where you can take in a magnificent aerial view of
the city and its harbor from two observation decks.
Do you love getting out into nature, whether
it’s for recreation or relaxation? Then visit Presque Isle State Park and Asbury
Woods. They are two of the area’s most popular
natural attractions. We are located only two miles from Presque Isle State
Park where
you can enjoy year round activities. In the summer take advantage of
seven miles of hiking trails, canoeing in the lagoons, boating, scuba diving,
fishing, biking, rollerblading, and bird-watching. There are many picnic
areas and a wonderful nature center displaying local wildlife unique
to the park. In the winter months, there is free
cross-country skiing, ice skating, and ice fishing. Asbury Woods is a
200-acre tract of wetlands, trails, forests, streams, fields and historic
properties. Located just one and a half miles away it is one of the premier
environmental centers in northwestern Pennsylvania, providing educational and recreational opportunities
to more than 130,000 visitors annually.
Lake Erie and the watersheds that flow into it boast the best fishing throughout
the year in Northwest
Pennsylvania. In the
winter months thousands of anglers flock to Erie Bay where they pull yellow perch and other pan fish
through the ice. On occasion walleye, northern pike, and even steelhead
lurking beneath the ice will surprise an unexpecting
angler. As the ice melts and spring arrives, trout season begins.
Creeks in the area are stocked full of trout and anglers are out in full force
starting mid-April. May and early summer bring smallmouth bass and
crappie anglers from all over the state to Lake Erie and Erie Bay.
Throughout the summer months there are many species of fish anglers seek
including walleye, lake trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike,
muskellunge, and yellow perch. And when fall arrives
the steelhead in countless numbers begin their
journey from deep water up the shallow creeks.
You’d be hard pressed to find an angler who doesn’t know the
successes one can have steelhead fishing in the area. And don’t
forget the steelhead run in the springtime too! Whether fishing from shore
or boat, with fly fishing or conventional tackle, there are many fishing spots
throughout the Erie area that will produce the great day of fishing you
seek. If you’re looking to charter there are several experienced
and skilled captains in the area who would be more than happy to take you out
and deliver a successful day of fishing. For more information on fishing
in northwest Pennsylvania, visit www.FishErie.com.
